37 weeks

How big is the Baby?
Your baby is now considered "full term," even though your due date is three weeks away. If you go into labor now, his lungs will likely be mature enough to fully adjust to life outside the womb. (Some babies need a bit more time, though. So if you're planning to have a repeat c-section, for example, your practitioner will schedule it for no earlier than 39 weeks unless there's a medical reason to intervene earlier.)

Your baby weighs 6 1/3 pounds and measures a bit over 19 inches, head to heel (like a stalk of Swiss chard). Many babies have a full head of hair at birth, with locks from 1/2 inch to 1 1/2 inches long. But don't be surprised if your baby's hair isn't the same color as yours. Dark-haired couples are sometimes thrown for a loop when their children come out as blonds or redheads, and fair-haired couples have been surprised by Elvis look-alikes. And then, of course, some babies sport only peach fuzz.

How Life's Changing
A new question I am getting a lot whenever I go out in public is, "When are you due?" It's actually a bit odd to me because strangers haven't said much to me (regarding pregnancy) over the course of my entire pregnancy thus far. I guess it is pretty obvious now that I'm pregnant and they feel better asking when there isn't really a doubt. Ha! Every time someone asks I am reminded that our Lil Nugget will be here so soon...and I cannot wait.

Besides people asking me when I'm due, another frequent question I am getting is, "Has the baby dropped yet?" Ummmm, I have no clue people. I think I always carried pretty low and I never really had a hard time catching my breath...so nothing has changed. Not sure what that means.

This week, my friend and co-worker, Tara (who is due just 4 days after me) went to a breastfeeding class at our hospital. It was good and informative and I'm glad I went, but I can't lie...it kind of overwhelms me to think that for the first few weeks I will be feeding him every 2-3 hours. That's a lot. I hope it's an enjoyable/easy experience. I've known so many people whose babies are pros from day 1 and others who really struggle. Here's to praying it is not a struggle.

And now for the most exciting part of my week...my weekly Doctor's appointment!!!! Let me tell you, Thursday couldn't come soon enough! :) I love going to the Doctor's and getting to hear the Lil Nugget's heartbeat and to see if I have made any progress. I told them I had been getting a lot of headaches so they checked my blood pressure (which they always do) and it was a little high so they decided to have me take tomorrow off work as well as give blood. So, we'll see what happens with that!

Regarding progress, I have made a little. I was a small 2 last week and this week I am closer to being 3cm dilated. So that's good. As far as effacement she didn't mention anything so I'm not sure if I am still at 60% or if I am more thinned out. At this point it doesn't really matter. I mean, he'll come when he comes!

How I'm Feeling
While I am fearful for all the unknows becoming a Mom will bring into my life (and the lack of sleep) I cannot wait to finally see what our lil guy looks like! It blows my mind that a baby is going to come out of me. What a miracle. Fo' reals.

I'm also a little nervous about my elevated BP (my sister has this with her most recent pregnancy), but I'm just going to trust that God knows what he's doing.

Other than that...I am ready to get the show on the road!!!

I'll keep ya'll posted!
