Bathroom Makeover - Part 1

Last weekend, I started the process of "making over" our bathroom (our 1 and only bathroom). The bathroom is the only room in our house that has escaped our touch (until now...insert evil laugh), because after priming and painting every other room (yep, each room had about 3 coats of paint) we were worn out. Can you blame us?!?!

So, after 7 months, of pretty harmless house projects, I decided I had it in me to attack the bathroom. Now, I call it a makeover because we are not re-doing the room or making any major changes (sad, I know). Even though we would love to get rid of the hideous blue tile that is everywhere in the bathroom we don't have the money, skill, or time to tackle that..................(oh, sorry, I just fell into a dream of what I wish my bathroom looked like), but don't worry, I am now back to reality.

So here's picture of what the bathroom looked like pre-us (this picture was taken while the previous homeowners lived here):

Now, it could be worse. Don't get me wrong. I mean, we could have pink bathroom tiles and I have to say, it actually looks pretty good at a distance. I wish I could say the same about it, but when you are up-close and personal you can definitely tell that this baby needs a facelift. I especially wish I had a full picture of the vanity area. It's scary. The drawers are gross...to put it nicely and they just caked layers of paint on everything (aka: the vanity, trim and window) it all needs to be scraped down and re-painted.

Anyways, here is what I did last weekend:

Taken via IPhone...new wall color (Revere Pewter - Benjamin Moore)
I painted the walls! Yay! Sadly, that's all I got done. Nope, that's actually not true...I scraped all the peeling paint of the window and got it ready to be painted in our brighter white trim color (Dove White - Benjamin Moore...our kitchen cabinets and trim are this color and we will eventually paint all of the trim in our house this color too).

Can I just mention that the window in the bathroom has been lots of colors. I am pretty sure it started off blue (almost the same color as the tiles), then it was a creamy yellow and lastly the off-white it is currently (but not for much longer). These people sure had some wild tastes in color. Yikes!

Anyways, here is what we are hoping to get finished this weekend (Nate has tomorrow off...YAY):
  • Paint the window and trim.
  • Hang roman shade (same bamboo that matches the shades in the rest of our house).
  • Spruce up vanity: remove drawer fronts and make new ones, paint entire vanity, put on new hardware
  • Finish the frame we are putting around our huge plain mirror: cut the trim, stain it (same colors as our floors, dark walnut) and attach to mirror.
  • If we're lucky: I really want to scrub the floors and get them super clean and then scrape all of the caulk around the tub off and re-caulk it...the old stuff is looking pretty disgusting...
Doesn't that sound fun? ;-) And that's just in the bathroom. We actually have one other project we want to complete this weekend too. Should be interesting.

Can we get it all done??? We shall see. I'll keep ya posted!
